Most Vans backpacks should not be assumed waterproof. Some current models use polyester or nylon with polyurethane coatings that can help during light, brief exposure, but coated fabric is not the same as sealed waterproof construction. Protect laptops and important papers separately, and verify the exact model description before relying on it in rain.

Start with the sewn-in care label. Empty the backpack, remove loose debris and spot clean with cool water, diluted mild soap and a soft cloth. Test a hidden area first, rinse away residue, reshape the bag and air dry it completely.
